Combining data together data to create useful information
By drawing data from a wide variety of sources, we created an application that is both powerful and very easy to use.
A map is used to display the location of thousands of aircraft, ships and trucks in real time, using information gathered from various government and industry systems.
This display is fused with data from other systems (such as consignments, warehouse information, barcode and RFID reads). Users can easily search and locate assets with a simple one line search capability, display current status and receive live email updates of key events.
An award winning solution

Real time location of assets
Worldwide tracking of assets requires a range of solutions, from barcodes to GPS and RFID tags. This, coupled with information ‘locked’ inside corporate systems, can be used to effectively create a solution.
The DaCar team has worked in support of DOD, MOD and commercial customers to create viable solutions. In general we have found this to be a process of not only tying together existing data sources, but also working to improve the quality of the data being received. Often, it not a question of lack of data. Rather, the data is of very poor quality.
The DaCar team has worked with users to address data quality issues by creating solutions that provide real value, especially to those users responsible for entering the information. We have also built software that is capable of receiving RFID data from dispersed readers, providing status and health information on the network of readers and sharing tag read information with other governments in a secure manner.
Innovative approach to analyzing alternatives to discovering solutions
As part of our work supporting risk analysis for various government agencies (DOD, FAA, MOD), we developed a methodology for ‘risk based decision support’.
This has been used to support several projects – from selecting the ‘best’ product to assessing the benefits of different business and operational alternatives.
For example, it was used by the MOD to help determine the best approach to managing airport RAMP operations. It was also used for the FAA to help select between alternative software packages.
A paper detailing this innovative approach was presented at the 11th World Conference in transport Research, Berkeley University, CA.
Security work for commercial, government and military organizations
The DaCar team are actively involved in putting in place and supporting security solutions for customers, including the military, federal government and commercial organizations.
For a national military customer, we have built a unique public facing system that meets all security requirements. We have worked closely with military security accreditors to develop a unique and yet highly secure system, that not only meets the strict military requirements, but also provides active monitoring and tracking of activity.
We have maintained secure systems and services providing data to and from other government systems in a strictly controlled manner. We have also planned and implemented systems that include multiple layers of security
For industry, we have created secure systems that also implement two step authentication and user roles for access and navigation of web facing dashboards.
For a number of organizations, we are responsible for on-going security, including investigating and reporting on security incidents.
Our understanding of security goes beyond simply placing a system behind a firewall with the assumption that it is therefore 'safe'. For example, we understand that behavior of users also has to be actively monitored with the vast majority of security breaches resulting from some form of human engineering. It is a sobering thought that some of the most significant recent security breaches from the likes of Private Manning or Edward Snowden, were from people that had been vetted and authorized to access information. We understand this, and put in place solutions that are targeted at catching security breaches before they become critical.
Real world updating of IT systems and network infrastructures
We have supported the modernization of IT systems and network infrastructures.
Most recently, we have been involved in modernizing a legacy mainframe based aircraft maintenance system. Like so many industry systems, when first developed, only a mainframe was capable of supporting a distributed environment with thousands of users. However, today, web based hosted solutions support large numbers of users located across the world. While moving off the mainframe will save a great deal of money, achieving this is complex from an IT perspective. The DaCar team has been involved in developing and implementing practical solutions that keep the best of the legacy software but also migrates to a web based solution.
This modernization will also mean that users will now be provided with up to date solutions, including disconnected tablet based applications and advanced data analysis software.
Developing Apps that work on every platform
We are actively developing Apps that adopt a "write once use on every platform" approach.
By tracking the latest industry developments, we are able to not only greatly speed up the speed at which Apps can be developed, but also provide a single maintenance and support infrastructure, thereby further significantly reducing costs.
Apps can then be made available using standard infrastructure (Apple and Android stores) or directly using a company's own infrastruture. The Apps that we have developed are also able to work online and offline giving unparalleled user access.
